White emphasizes that suppliers should be viewed as strategic partners rather than transactional vendors. By sharing production schedules, upcoming projects, and material requirements, shops enable suppliers to secure inventory, offer just-in-time delivery, and provide value-added services such as precision cutting and ready-to-machine materials.

The result is greater flexibility, more predictable lead times, improved cash flow, and lower overall operating costs. In today’s challenging manufacturing environment, proactive inventory planning can help machine shops reduce risk, improve efficiency, and gain a meaningful competitive advantage.
